Seminar On Setting Up Of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) System
Hon’ble Chief Justice Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court Mr. Justice Ali Baig along with worthy Registrar Chief Court Mr. Ghulam Abbas Chopa attended a seminar on Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) system for resolving cases in Gilgit-Baltistan arranged by Legal Aid Society Pakistan. While addressing the seminar Hon’ble Chief Justice said that in Gilgit-Baltistan the ADR system already exists in various forms, such as exemplary boards, arbitration boards, jirga systems, ulema boards and sharia boards that resolve cases at the local level according to local customs. There are various ways in which people can resolve their disputes without trial. The system if introduced could reduce the burden of litigation in the courts. His lordship ordered the Registrar to immediately prepare a draft for making Gilgit Baltistan ADR Rules and present it in the Assembly. On the occasion, hon’ble Chief Justice Chief Justice Ali Baig while announcing the setting up of a model AD Center in the newly constructed building of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court said that the ADR system in Gilgit-Baltistan would be strengthened in different parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Additional Registrar Chief Court Nisar Hussain, Law Minister Syed Sohail Abbas, Coordinator to Chief Minister Yasir Abbas, Law Secretary Rahim Gul Lawyers and political and social figures, including Izhar Hunzai, Head of Sony Jawari Center, also attended the session.
